OK. So most of you will have seen all this – if you’re into Game of Thrones at all – but I came late to the party, and I have to say, “Man! Ending episode of season 5… dark much?
I mean sheesh! The battle with the dead guys and the white walkers was grim, but exciting too. And the rescue of Daenerys by her dragon was awesome. (Why didn’t they put that at the end?) But all the suicides and revenge and assorted other bummers were a real bring-down, don’t you think?
There was Stannis’s queen hanging herself. That was depressing – although not as awful as Stannis burning his daughter at the stake in the previous episode.
And then Brienne of Tarth getting all pompous with dispatching Stannis – not that he didn’t deserve it.
OK, and what about Theon Greyjoy (AKA Reek) flinging themselves off the wall of Winterfell. Yeah, we didn’t see them die, so they might have tumbled into a passing hay wagon. But still…
Little girls getting hit with sticks, and then Arya executing the most egregious revenge-slaying ever. I don’t think I liked her nearly as much after that. The guy was a dickhead, but what did that scene say about Arya’s moral character? Oh, and then she goes blind later?
And poor Myrcella! Yikes! She didn’t deserve that…
And neither did Cersie Lannister. Yeah, she’s a cruel evil bitch, but the over-the-top humiliation scene that dragged on, and on, and on. That’s really going to make her reconsider her past acts with regret. NOT! Not to mention seeing the zombie Gregor Clegane in his gold-cloak armor. Well, better than seeing the zombie Gregor Clegane without his gold-cloak armor
And then Jon Snow. What can I say?
