Not My President!

Opposition supporters bang pots against President-elect Nicolas Maduro as they protest the results of the presidential election in Caracas, Venezuela, April 18. Opposition protesters have been protesting the election results every night with pot banging since the Sunday election.

Many folks are looking for some way to register their dismay and disgust on Inauguration Day, Friday, January 20th. Not everyone can participate in a General Strike or in demonstrations. But everyone can gather on their porch or in their streets and bang their pots and pans to show our absolute disgust for Trump, et al.

This event is in keeping with the Latin American tradition of registering protest against the government by banging pots and pans. (

This is a neighborhood action. Indeed, its success will be ensured by people reposting this announcement on social media and by going house to house and involving their neighbors. (Check back to this site soon for leaflets in Spanish, Mandarin and English that can be dropped on doorsteps.) Rather than asking people to drive somewhere to lodge their protests, we are asking people to make a din on their own street, or in a public place that they happen to be in on Friday, January 20th at 6 p.m. your local time.

Six o'clock, local time, has been chosen with the idea of maximizing the number of participants rather than coordinating with any event taking place in Washington DC on January 20th. The goal is to get as many people as possible out on their porches banging their pots and registering their opposition.

Will it do any good?  Probably not.  But it might make you feel better...
