Today the Department of Awesomely Good Deeds salutes the team of volunteers at the the Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center in Mathura in North India. To help their elephants cope with cold winter weather they’ve been knitting gigantic sweaters for their rescued elephants. It takes about 4 weeks to make one elephant-sized sweater.
“It is important to keep our elephants protected from the bitter cold during this extreme winter, as they are weak and vulnerable having suffered so much abuse making them susceptible to ailments such as pneumonia,” cofounder Kartick Satyanarayan said in a release. “The cold also aggravates their arthritis which is a common issue that our rescued elephants have to deal with.”Visit the Wildlife SOS India website or follow them on Facebook or Instagram to learn more about their awesome ongoing efforts to help elephants, Asiatic bears, and other orphaned, injured, and exploited animals.
